Bold Humility

True humility does not say “God would never help me.”  That would be to slander God and presume to know what He is willing to do. It’s false humility. True humility says, “Only God can help me.  I have nothing in and of myself to do it.  If He does not help, there is no help available to me.”

Furthermore, true humility reasons that if God is willing to give sustenance to scavenging dogs (or the birds of the air and the lilies of the field), then there is every reason to hope that I, too, might find God’s mercy. Therefore, I can humbly seek it boldly.   –– Reflecting on the Canaanite woman and Jesus (Matt 15:1-28)
